Microgravity System Engineer (f/m/d)

WORKING AT YURI IS LIKE: 
YOUR MISSION
To lead one team of the Überflieger-2 (DLR) project. The launch will be end of 2022. This includes exciting System Engineering tasks such as development and integration of hardware, testing, interface management, safety and execution of experiments on the ISS. You will be key point of contact for all system engineering matters for the missions section in Meckenbeuren (Germany).
YOUR GOALS
  1. Selection of game changing experiments to be flown Nov 2022
  2. Definition of the experiment specific requirements
  3. Technical and organizational support of one student team
  4. PDR until Feb 2022
  5. CDR until June 2022
Important tasks to achieve these goals:
  • Specification, design and analysis of mechanic systems including system architecture for manned and unmanned spaceflight (all development phases A to F)
  • Assembly, Integration and Testing of the experiment hardware (AIT)
  • Interface Management between Student Teams, Space Agency (ESA, LSA, NASA etc.) and Implementation Partner
  • Safety release, Experiment Preparation at the Rocket Launch Site, Transport to and Execution of the Experiments on the ISS and optionally the Return Transport of the Experiments to the Scientists' Laboratories.
  • Implement state-of-the-art technologies and continuously search for new innovative solutions
  • Close collaboration with interfacing engineering disciplines
  • Documentation: design reports, test procedures, etc. (ideally acc. ECSS and MIL-STD norms)
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • have had experiences in similar positions over more than 5 years (INCOSE certification welcome)
  • ideally are experienced with design, AIT and PA/Safety in the area of manned spaceflight with knowledge of space program roles, standards (e.g. ECSS and SSP) and configuration control
  • are experienced with CAE / CAD / FEM tools and with MS Office
  • are a team player with communication skills, supportive, well organized and have an independent way of working
  • fluently speak and write in English and ideally good in German
  • Structured way of working and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and to complete them diligently
