Systems Engineer (f/m/d)

At Yuri, we develop innovative systems for microgravity research and spaceflight, enabling new applications in life sciences and beyond. Our projects combine advanced technologies across mechanical, electrical, software, life-science and operational domains and are designed for challenging environments such as the ISS, free flyers, and future commercial space stations.

We are looking for a Systems Engineer who enjoys understanding the bigger picture, turning complex customer and mission needs into robust technical solutions, and bringing multidisciplinary teams together to deliver flight-ready systems.

• Systems Engineering & Technical Leadership: Lead the technical development of the system and act as the central technical authority across all engineering disciplines. Translate customer, mission, and operational needs into system requirements, architectures, and technical solutions.

• System Architecture & Requirements: Develop and maintain the system architecture, including functional and physical decomposition and allocation to mechanical, electrical/electronic, software, and other subsystems. Own the system requirements lifecycle, including decomposition, allocation, traceability, verification, and change management.

• Multidisciplinary Engineering: Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, align subsystem development with system-level objectives, and resolve technical conflicts and system-level issues across the complete system.

• Technical Decision-Making & Trade-offs: Drive technical decisions and trade-offs, balancing system performance, reliability, safety, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and operational constraints.

• Interfaces & Integration: Define and manage internal and external interfaces and ensure technical consistency across the complete system. Coordinate system integration activities and ensure effective interaction between subsystems, suppliers, and external partners.

• Verification & Validation: Define and coordinate system-level integration, verification, and validation strategies, including test planning, requirements verification, and requirements closure.

• Technical Risk & Product Assurance: Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, and design drivers. Work closely with Product Assurance and engineering specialists to define and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

• COTS & Supplier Engineering: Support the selection and integration of COTS components and subsystems. Provide technical direction to suppliers and partners and ensure compliance with system-level requirements.

• Design Reviews & Technical Milestones: Lead the system-level technical preparation and participation in design reviews and major technical milestones, including PDR, CDR, qualification, and verification activities.

• Customer & Project Interface: Act as the primary technical interface to customers, suppliers, partners, and project management. Support the Project Manager with technical input on scope, cost, schedule, technical risks, and engineering changes.

• Standards & Systems Engineering Practices: Apply and continuously improve INCOSE, NASA, and ECSS Systems Engineering practices within Yuri and ensure their consistent application throughout the system development lifecycle.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.

• Experience: Several years of professional experience in Systems Engineering, ideally within aerospace, spaceflight, or another multidisciplinary engineering environment.

• Systems Engineering: Solid experience in requirements engineering, system architecture, interface management, trade studies, system integration, verification, and validation. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and driving technical decisions.

• Standards: Good knowledge of the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook, NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, and relevant ECSS standards.

• Tools: Experience with requirements-management and Systems Engineering tools. Familiarity with formal engineering review processes such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR, and FAR.

• Skills: Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, excellent communication and coordination abilities, and the ability to work effectively across different engineering disciplines. Well-organized, supportive, and able to work independently.

• Nice-to-Have: INCOSE certification (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP). Experience with space projects, payloads, ISS missions, or other highly regulated engineering environments. German language skills.
